A solo trip to Algonquin's Rock Lake

A topographic map of Algonquin Park from 1934., The area I camped in (bottom-centre) was on private land at the time. The Booth/Fleck/Barclay Estate, the remains of which can be seen below, was located at the centre of this private land ownership until it was demolished by fire in 1955.

The remains of the Barclay Estate boat dock.

An 1892 map of the proposed Ottawa, Arnprior and Parry Sound Railway, which passed along the eastern shore of Rock Lake. The railway, which was at one point the busiest in Canada, was in operation from 1897 until 1959. The route through Algonquin Park played an important role in the park’s development as a tourist destination.

Dinner.
